Interoperability Improving Public Safety

Jeffcom’s forward-thinking approach to interoperability has resulted in enhanced services and inter-agency information sharing.
Jefferson County Shared Computer-Aided Dispatch

In 2021, Jeffcom entered into an inter-governmental agreement with Jefferson County R-1 School District committing to providing R1’s security dispatch with access to Jeffcom’s state-of-the-art computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. Sharing a CAD would allow Jeffcom Emergency Communications Specialists to communicate with school dispatch personnel directly, with the opposite scenario also being true.

The Jefferson County Shared CAD has allowed both centers to streamline Safe2Tell processing times and continues to provide increased situational awareness to law enforcement, fire crews, and school security.

Colorado CAD to CAD Hub

In 2022 Jeffcom and South Metro Fire Rescue established the Colorado’s first multi-disciplined regional CAD to CAD hub. CAD to CAD allows dispatch centers to share information about calls for service, unit availability, and more. Today, Jeffcom and South Metro leverage the hub to dispatch the closest unit to calls regardless of jurisdiction. CAD to CAD has drastically improved response times to citizens residing in both West Metro Fire Protection District and South Metro Fire Rescue.

Numerous other Denver metro agencies have expressed interest in joining the Colorado CAD to CAD hub, which will create additional efficiencies and continue to improve public safety services.
